I’m sure my client Belinda was hesitant when I told her one of the first things I wanted her to do as we started working on her weight loss goal was to eat MORE.
That’s not something we typically expect when trying to lose weight. We’re more used to being told slashing calories is the way to go.
However for many women, Belinda included, eating too much was not what was keeping her from losing weight.
It was eating too little.
Belinda had legitimate reasons for doing so. She’s admittedly a picky eater, but also her job as a teacher in a special needs classroom keeps her busy and focused throughout the day (and long after her “traditional” work day is over.)
Simply put she had many other things to focus on besides food.
My first goal with Belinda was getting her on a regular eating schedule – three meals a day and at least one snack – to provide her body with a much needed source of consistent energy. This not only would help her metabolism which would in turn lead to fat loss, but would also give her more energy throughout the day.
Belinda was a diligent client and from the start she worked hard to hit her calorie goal every day. All we wanted to do in the beginning was make it a habit to eat. She had already been making healthier choices, now she just needed to make eating throughout the day part of her normal routine.
We found things she liked and was able to eat quickly or if she didn’t have time to sit down.
After just weeks, Belinda started to see the scale go down and friends and family noticed she’s looking better than ever.
Beyond the scale, Belinda feels better and has more energy. She’s also stronger.
One of the things I am most proud of is how much progress Belinda has made since she started strength training a couple months ago. Each week I can see she is stronger, has better range of motion and more awareness with her body.
She even took a leap and joined my group classes which was definitely out of her comfort zone. And even though she wasn’t sure what to expect, Belinda had a great time and got a good workout that didn’t push her too hard or make her feel like she could not keep up.
All of my ladies are upbeat and fun to be around and Belinda is no different. We have some of the best conversations during her sessions and I am always smiling and laughing with her.
Belinda is proof that change is possible, sometimes it is just a matter of finding the right fit for YOU and that doesn’t always mean eating less and suffering through workouts that don’t address your unique needs.
Because she’s committed to putting in the work Belinda will continue to have success. I am blessed to be on this journey with her and can’t wait to watch her continue to grow!
